New to American Mahjong, or coming back after a long break? Start with a lesson. Our open play afternoons are for people who already know the game, so lessons are where everyone begins.

Group lessons
For people who have never played. Choose a lesson on the schedule and save a spot. The listing shows where it is (a restaurant or the instructor’s home) and whether it’s one session or two. You’ll learn the tiles, the Charleston and the card, then play real hands with the instructor.
Prices are set by each instructor and shown when you book.

Private lessons
Book one of our instructors for a small group of up to 7 people, at your home or at one of our restaurants, on a day that suits you. Good for friends, book clubs, sisterhoods and birthday groups.

Take a lesson.
A group lesson or a private one. Most people want two or three before they feel comfortable.
- once you know the basics
Try beginner-friendly play.
A game day just for newer players who know the basics. The pace is relaxed and questions are welcome, but it’s play, not a lesson. You should already know the Charleston and how to read the card.
- when you’re ready
Join open play.
Afternoon games for people who know the current card. Friendly, but everyone plays their own hand.
